Jewish Agency for Israel

Jewish Agency for Israel is the Jewish biggest partnership in the world.

We work to contribute to the future and to the continuity of the Jewish

nation, by Aliyah, Zionist Jewish education, and partnership with Israel.

The Jewish Agency is a global partnership committed to the Jewish future that stands on a history-making track record. Together with the United Jewish Communities (UJC) in North America, andKeren Hayesod - United Israel Appeal around the world, our partnership has brought 3 million people to Israel; we have built a nation. Not by the daring acts of a few, but by the power of our collective commitment and action. And together, we can meet the challenges of today - and our aspirations for the future.

At the Jewish Agency, we believe that Israel stands at the heart of the Jewish future.

That's why we’re partnering in communities around the world with dual purpose: to keep the promise to every Jew who, for any reason, at any time, chooses to come home to Israel; and to put Israel into the lives of the Jewish world's next generation. Connecting, engaging and inspiring them to lead our people into the future.

We also believe that Israel must reflect our collective best efforts. As Israel's most effective nonprofit, we aspire to create an Israel of equal opportunity. A place where risk is transformed into possibility for every young person and every community. A place where every voice is heard.

That's why we're partnering the Jewish world through dynamic platforms - like Partnership 2000 and Youth Futures - to mobilize volunteers and give shape and form to our peoplehood. Because no matter where you live in the world, you are part of this story. Our global partnership starts with you.

Babait Beyahad / At Home-Together

A unique national project bringing together new immigrants with Israelis and veteran olim, in local communities throughout the country.

Israeli society was not built by words but by the actions of caring, idealistic pioneers who recognized the needs of the time and made things happen.Today we no longer need to clear swamps, but the challenges that await us are no less important. The modern day call of Zionism has many dimensions.A major one is keeping the seams of our society together.Aliyah is one of the threads that strengthens Israel's social fabric.Together we will create a network that includes the extended family of Israel and tie the knots that will keep us as a society together. We invite you to be part of this challenge.

The Babait Beyahad / At Home-Together program provides new immigrants with an Israeli paired family based on common backgrounds and interests. It is a voluntary program whose goal is to connect between new immigrants and Israeli or veteran olim; families and singles. The program aims to help establish social contact between new immigrants and Israelis while offering the new immigrant a support system and assistance in technical navigation as well as help in becoming more familiar with and at home with his surroundings. It offers Israelis or former immigrants the opportunity to assist in the national priority of absorbing new immigrants and to become involved in an important community project.

Program Format

Families are paired according to individual suitability, common background (age, profession, children, etc.) language and interests. They are then invited to jointly participate in a variety of local recreational, cultural, social and enrichment activities as a basis for facilitating continuous contact between the participants. The Babait Beyahad Program offers professional counseling for coordination of expectations, definition of boundaries and inter-cultural changes, as well as follow up and supervision of families.

The program has two voluntary options:

Family accompanies family – establishing a connection between Israelis or veteran olim and new oleh families, students and lone soldiers, based on common backgrounds or interests.

Task volunteers – assistance to olim in a particular area, such as learning Hebrew, employment, advise, information etc.

A unique, relatively new program, Babait Beyahad / At Home-Together aims at taking an old concept of supporting and befriending new immigrants, and building a network that includes the extended family of Israel. Jointly established by the Jewish Agency, the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption and the Union of Local Authorities, Babait Beyahad has been adopted as a national project with the goal of meeting the challenge of integrating new olim into Israeli society.

The program connects Israelis and veteran olim with new olim throughout the country, assisting to integrate the new olim into Israeli society and encouraging a long-term relationship based on equality and mutual care. To date over 20,000 families have joined the program, together with 1,700 task volunteers who assist the new olim in specific aspects of their absorption process.

Program Goals:

  • To ensure a quick and smooth integration of new olim into Israeli society, through the creation of social ties, for a joint social future.
  • To maintain continuous and direct ties between Israeli families (sabras or veteran olim) and olim families, students or lone soldiers.
  • To contribute to a feeling of belonging amongst olim families and to assist in their integration in their new surroundings.
  • To instill the value of integrating new olim as a norm in Israeli society.
  • To support the idea that successful absorption of new olim will naturally lead to aliyah encouragement amongst friends and family abroad.
